Building Leadership Team Report

The Building Leadership Team has worked on several different initiatives during the 2008-2009 school year. Planning and initiating staff development is a large responsibility of this committee.

This team of teachers went to the Mississippi Bend A.E.A. for two days of workshops involving Differentiated Instruction (D.I.). This model applies different approaches to teaching and learning so that students have multiple options for taking in information and making sense of ideas to maximize the learning process. The Building Leadership Team came back and shared information. Each teacher has taken existing units and lessons and integrated strategies from D.I. Teachers have worked with Linda Mannhardt, from the A.E.A. this school year, who is helping us understand and implement D.I. in our classrooms. She has worked with us on Wednesday early-outs and in-service days.

Teachers are working on implementing our new social studies series, Social Studies, Alive! We will align the social studies curriculum with the Diocesan Standards and Benchmarks. Teachers will collaborate and compare social studies concepts taught at the different grade levels.

The Building Leadership Team has also planned staff development for the 2009-2010 school year. D.I. will continue to be an area of focus for our staff in all levels of education.

Grant Committee

Each year the grant committee is thankful for any financial assistance given to St. Paul the Apostle School. This year the committee has written a total of nine grants, two of which have been approved. The following foundations and awards have been given to St. Paul the Apostle School during this past school year (08-09): IBM for a computer in the Early Learning Center ( $2,149) and the Scott County Regional Authority (SCRA) for roof repair to be done above the gymnasium and stage area ($20,200). Certainly the economy has impacted the amount of money available for organizations to disburse and thus for organizations to receive. However, the committee hopes to continue to discover new funding sources. The grant committee, which consists of Tom Tallman, Diane Nelson, Nancy Brimeyer, Susie Clay, Colleen Tallman, Brooke DiIulio, and Dan Ryan, asks all parents to contact any committee member if he/she knows of a potential grant opportunity. We will do all the writing as long as we know the grants to pursue. Thank you for your help and support.
