5th Sunday in Ordinary Time-Week of February 5, 2012 Year

Reading I: Job 7:1-4, 6-7 (Job’s first reply)
Reading II:1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23 (Paul’s recompense)
Gospel: Mark 1:29-39 (cure of Peter’s mother-in-law and other miracles)

Theme: Jesus heals

Key Passage: that evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door.

Listen to the Word: As you listen to the stories of Jesus healing the people, what strikes you about it? What do you detect in Jesus that strengthens his ministry?

Question for Children: What could you do this week to comfort someone who is sad or sick

Question for Adults:  Do you go to Jesus for healing? What needs to be healed in your life, in our world, in society?

If you will be traveling out of the area, go to www.masstimes.org for locations and Mass times and keep God in your plans.

Living a Stewardship Way of Life involves certain expectations, for example

  • For the most part, that parents and students attend Mass as a family in their parish Church on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
  • Families and students try to avail themselves of the many opportunities to give of their time and talent to the parish and to the school.
  • In addition to Stewardship of Time and Talent, families should use their Church envelopes on a somewhat regular basis to exercise Stewardship of Treasure. The non-use of envelopes indicates inactivity in the parish. We recommend that financial giving to the parish be according to the St. Paul Three-Way Giving Program. (moving closer to the biblical tithe of 5% for parish, 2% for education ministries and 1% for Annual Diocesan Appeal.)
