RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT

Parish Meeting #1

Task:
Consider your parish’s strengths and weaknesses in the major ministry areas. These will be used to discern how parishes might best complement each other in these ministry areas.
Liturgy, Sacraments and Prayer:
Recommendation made to potentially engage a paid, professional Director of Liturgy
to assist the parish in enhancing all aspects of its liturgical, sacramental and prayer
life.
  • Provide more opportunities for sacramental reconciliation and healing.
  • Enhance full, conscious and active participation by all.
  • Basic catechesis regarding sacraments and liturgies.
  • Direct application of prayer and worship into daily life.
  • Variety of activities and styles to encourage greater participation.
Encourage/support continuing education for clergy in ars celebrandi - especially in
effective preaching.
Faith Formation and Education
  Strong program and tradition of Catholic School education with determination to
continue.
  • Aging facilities and cramped for space - no lunch area, no space large enough to
    hold entire student body.
  • Desire to increase accessibility and availability to all
  • No Catholic program for Special Education and Alternative Education in the
    Iowa Quad-Cities area
  • Non-school parishes need to support Catholic schools in concept and financially
Strong need felt for improvement in the area of adult faith formation
  • Adults not well catechized or evangelized in their faith
  • Insufficient support in the homes for what is taught in the school and religious education programs
  • Need to be designed and defined
  • Greater availability and variety of opportunities - creative ideas

AREA NEED CONSIDERATIONS
St. Paul the Apostle Parish serves the following community needs:
 
  • St. Mary Health Care and Rehabilitation Center - Catholic Mass every other Tuesday at 1:30PM. Communion provided every Tuesday
  • Senior Star at Elmore - Mass on the second Friday of each month at 9:45AM. Communion provided every week
  • CASI - Communion every Friday
  • Spring Village - Communion every Friday
  • Manor Care at Utica Ridge - Communion every Friday
  • 13 individual homebound members receive Communion calls every Friday
  • Priests serve as primary sacramental providers to Genesis East Campus for emergency situations and when individual’s own pastor cannot be reached
  • Hospital visitations for all parishioners known to be hospitalized
